Compensation – This is a part-time, non-exempt, position limited to 10-15 hours per week. This position includes regular weekend days and some holidays. It pays an hourly rate of $16-$18, depending on qualifications.

Summary – The Volunteer and Membership Assistant will work in collaboration with staff and volunteers to provide physical and intellectual access to the museum exhibits, manage volunteers, and administer the membership program.  Additionally, the assistant will collaborate on the execution of the museum membership program and associated record keeping. The hired candidate will work approximately every third weekend and report to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities

Volunteers:

  • Recruit, interview, schedule, manage, and support museum volunteers.
  • Train and communicate with volunteers, interns, and docents to provide meaningful visitor experiences.
  • Maintain digital and physical applications, files, and records for the volunteer program.
  • Track and update volunteer hours in spreadsheet.

Operations:

  • Perform or oversee opening/closing procedures.
  • Supervise operation of the museum and volunteers during open hours, as assigned.
  • Keep accurate admissions records.
  • Maintain the gift shop inventory.

Membership:

  • Collaborate to recruit, renew, and steward museum members.
  • Maintain membership database with up-to-date and accurate information.
  • Track and execute Member renewals on an ongoing basis.
  • Consult on timely and appropriate Member communications.

Qualifications – 

  • Bachelor’s degree in history, education, museum studies, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and perspectives.
  • Excellent customer service, organization, and communication skills.
  • Experience with computers and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience working with volunteers preferred.
  • Experience working in a museum setting preferred.
