Reports to: Vice President, Site Operations & Visitor Engagement
Stratford Hall Historic Preserve, a National Historic Landmark and one of America’s most significant historic sites, seeks a dynamic and experienced Education Director to lead our educational initiatives. This full-time position, reporting to the Vice President, Site Operations & Visitor Engagement, is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and coordination of a broad range of educational programs, including K-12 school field trips, public programs, paleontology programs, and tours. The Education Director will also manage volunteer and internship programs and collaborate across departments to advance Stratford Hall’s mission and engage a wide audience.
Key Responsibilities:
Educational Program Development:
· Develop, implement, expand, and promote K-12 field trip programs and educational outreach initiatives.
· Lead, manage, and expand paleontology program offerings, like fossil tours and lectures.
· Develop, support, and grow public programs like lectures, special tours, and family days, collaborating with colleagues across departments.
· Manage and expand sitewide volunteer and internship Programs, coordinating placements sitewide and ensuring an enriching experience for participants.
Interpretation & Tours:
· Coordinate, lead and manage audio tours of the historic area and special group tours, under the guidance of Research and Collections to ensure engaging, accurate, educational experiences for all visitors.
· Manage historic area staffing to enhance visitor experience and support programs and tours.
Public Event Coordination:
· Partner with Business Operations department to enhance festival programming, diversifying program offerings and expanding audience and earned revenue
· Support festival planning, logistics, and staffing.
Collaboration and Community Engagement:
· Build relationships with K12 organizations, Stratford descendants, historical and naturalist societies, community organizations, and local stakeholders to create and promote programming, driving increased visitation.
· Coordinate and represent Stratford Hall in community outreach events regionally.
Who You Are:
We are looking for a passionate, energetic museum educator who is eager to give voice to Stratford’s people, places, and past—developing engaging programs that draw increased numbers of visitors. The ideal candidate will bring:
· A deep commitment to public history, community engagement, and education.
· 5 years+ experience in museum education or public history, with experience in K-12 programming, volunteer management, and public engagement.
· Strong background in planning, implementing, and scaling public programs/events, with proven ability to grow visitation/program participation.
· Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate a team, including recruiting, training, and supporting staff, volunteers, and interns.
· Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments and with external partners. Comfort and enthusiasm for working with diverse audiences, colleagues, and community stakeholders.
· Highly developed problem-solving and analytical skills with a strong attention to detail.
· Ability to work a flexible schedule, including regular evenings, weekends, and holidays, with availability for key events such as festivals and board meetings.
· Strong dedication to Stratford Hall’s mission and strategic goals, ensuring the alignment of educational programs with the preserve's historical significance.
