Funding Your Mission: Practical Strategies and Perspectives for Museums and Cultural Organizations

Museums and cultural organizations across Virginia are navigating evolving donor expectations, competitive funding environments, and increased demand for community impact—often with fewer resources.

Join the Virginia Association of Museums (VAM) in collaboration with The Curtis Group and Virginia Humanities for an interactive fundraising workshop that convenes funders, museum leaders and development professionals to share practical strategies and real-world perspectives to strengthen philanthropic support. Participants will explore donor cultivation and stewardship best practices, gain perspective on how grant funders think about project design, impact, and readiness and hear candid lessons from leaders across Virginia’s cultural community.

Designed for nonprofit leaders, fundraising professionals and board members at small to mid-sized museums and cultural institutions, this workshop offers practical, focused guidance grounded in real-world experience. You will leave equipped with essential skills, actionable tools, and greater confidence to support your organization’s mission.

Through a mix of presentations, tabletop discussions, panel conversations, and networking, attendees leave with clear, immediately applicable approaches to strengthen donor relationships, improve grant competitiveness, and build more sustainable fundraising practices within their institutions.
