Summary – The Director of Exhibition and Curatorial Services is a reimagined role for the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation to help lead our Exhibit Services and Curatorial Services teams while building a cohesive, creative and collaborative effort in service to our mission and vision for the future of exhibits, engagement and learning.
Responsibilities –
- This position shall direct, oversee, and advocate for exhibition and curatorial services at Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown using innovative and impactful museum approaches and best practices in collections management.
- Ensures that exhibitions and curatorial interpretation provides experiences that are based on scholarship and utilizes methodologies that support the public in embracing the value and relevancy of history, creating cultural connections, cultivating curiosity, and nurturing belonging.
Qualifications -
- Demonstrated ability to lead creative and innovative exhibition development for a range of existing and expanding museum audiences, including diverse and historically underserved communities.
- Highly skilled at leading teams and delegating responsibility for the effective development and installation of exhibitions, care of collections, historical research, and public history interpretation.
- Skilled at historic research, including primary and secondary source research and ability to distil historic research for audiences.
- Expertise as a social, cultural, or public historian who uses objects to tell stories and make relevant connections with audiences.
- Experience effectively leading, motivating and developing staff and volunteers including recruitment, training and performance management; ability to direct multiple work groups.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multifaceted projects and meet challenging timelines, including the ability to develop and administer a variety of complex budgets.
