Richmond Kickers Presents A Night at the Museums

Enjoy the game with your family and friends where the Richmond Kickers will face off to the Spokane Velocity FC in Richmond on August 29th.

Richmond, VA - The Richmond Kickers is hosting a Night at the Museums event in collaboration with the VAM (Virginia Association of Museums) to raise funds to support the museum community. Each ticket purchased through this link gives back $5 to the Virginia Association of Museums. Proceeds are used to fund VAM programming and operations. Paige Gibbons Backus, VAM Council VP of Governance, remarked about VAM’s professional development programs, “Building connections and making acquaintances is in my opinion, just as valuable, if not more valuable than training and education. It was through these connections that I was able to get my first full-time museum job and be appointed to the board of VAM.” Your support of VAM helps us provide professional development workshops, the VA Top 10 Endangered Artifacts Program, and benefits over 2k members across the Commonwealth. Stop by our table meet our staff and council, and learn more about VAM and its impact on museum communities. Join us in Richmond to show your support for VAM and enjoy a family-fun event!

Have swag to promote your museum? Send us your swag and we'll promote it at our VAM booth on the Night at the Museums event.

Who We Are:

VAM advocates for the importance of museums in our communities and strengthens the cultural sector by supporting museum professionals throughout their careers with professional development, networking, and thought leadership.

VAM is the largest state museum service organization in the United States, with over 3,000 members. VAM focuses its efforts on professional and career development opportunities for museum professionals and advocacy at the state and national levels. Delegate Carr (78th House District) said, "As a frequent museum visitor, and former museum employee, I know how important the work and presence of museums in our communities are. Museums can provide many enjoyable hours of learning and entertainment for citizens of all ages and from walks of life.” VAM has taken the lead in providing Virginia’s museums with the tools necessary to face the challenges of the 21st century, and make constructive and adaptive changes to improve the stewardship of our historic and cultural heritage. It is a network of museum staff and volunteers who work together to promote professionalism in the museum field.

Our Programs:

The annual conference is an event where speakers present topics concerning the museum field such as: education, curatorial, HR, workplace culture, professional development, supervisory practices, finance, management, safety & security, operational, etc. In addition to the traditional program elements of this conference, VAM will also offer roundtable discussions & affinity group meetings to create spaces and opportunities for reflection and fellowship. The next conference will be in Blacksburg, VA from March 15, 2025 - March 18, 2025.

The Virginia Certificate in Museum Management provides a comprehensive understanding of various facets of museum management, including collections care, education and outreach, exhibitions, external relations, internal affairs, human resources, as well as career development. The program was created to provide high-level, easily accessible professional growth to career-minded museum staff and volunteers.

Virginia's Top 10 Endangered Artifacts (VA Top 10) is a project of the Virginia Association of Museums and was originally funded through an Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Connecting to Collections Statewide Implementation Grant. Due to its success, the program has been replicated in other states and recognized as one of the most successful outcomes of the Connecting to Collections grant program.
