Summary – The Maier Museum of Art at Randolph College seeks a part-time Registrar to manage a collection of over 4,000 works of art. The Maier Museum houses an outstanding collection of American art, chiefly two-dimensional works from the 19th century to contemporary. This critically important position works closely with a small team at the Maier and with our broader campus community, especially staff, faculty, and students engaged in the College’s interdisciplinary Museum and Heritage Studies program. A BA and experience working with collections management databases is required; an MA and teaching experience is preferred.
Responsibilities – The Registrar will maintain the collections management database with pertinent information on objects in the permanent and campus collections. Other core duties include:
- Good research, writing, and interpersonal skills; good planning, management, and organizational skills; knowledge of current technology relevant to collections management. Rigorous work ethic and proactive problem solver.
- Supervisory responsibilities
- Occasional interns focused on collections and archive management
- Work environment
- Typically working in a normal office environment around other people. Evening and weekend work is sometimes required.
- Physical demands
- May be sitting for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
