Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in history, museum studies, American studies or education; two years of experience as an interpreter or educator in a museum or historic site or teaching experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Specialized period skill required. Academic and working knowledge of early Virginia history including specialization in 16th/17th century English and Native Powhatan agriculture; principles and methodology of living history. Ability to work in adverse weather while wearing historical clothing; good communication skills both orally and in writing; ability to interact with all ages, cultures and backgrounds. Thorough knowledge of program-related historical material. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required.
Duties
Implement historical interpretive and educational programs at Henricus Historical Park. Duties include: presentation of living history interpretive/education programs to visitors, school groups and other groups; assist with maintaining and constructing interpretive wares; perform routine inspections and maintenance of site grounds, facilities and collections; serve as caretaker for some period breed animals such as goats, chickens and pigs; conduct historical research with assistance in program and special events content; assist in training other employees/volunteers; assist in park gift shop operations. Perform other work as required.
