Summary – 

The Curatorial Assistant at the Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum (LHFM) provides essential support to the Executive Director and Restoration Specialist. This role is responsible for managing administrative tasks, supporting curatorial activities, and ensuring smooth operations within the museum's curatorial department.

Responsibilities – 

  • Provide curatorial administrative support, including database management and report generation
  • Ensure security and regular maintenance of objects within the collection, including archival papers, photographs, glassware, metal and wooden tools, and oversized artifacts.
  • Generate creative and appropriate storage solutions.
  • Handle inquiries about collections, exhibitions, conservation, and donations.
  • Assist in managing the department budget, processing invoices and check requests.
  • Track objects through the accession process with the Executive Director.
  • Assist in the development, copyediting, design, and production of exhibition installations.
  • Conduct curatorial research as requested.
  • Assist with educational tours and events
  • Periodically support Visitor Services staff

Qualifications – 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Art, Art History, Museum Studies, or a related field. A Master’s Degree is desirable.
  • 2+ years of comprehensive administrative work experience, preferably in a museum or arts organization.
  • Interest in learning about the museum’s collection.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including editing and proofreading.
  • Proficiency with Google suite and Microsoft Office suite, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with collections databases. Photoshop or InDesign skills are desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, self-directed, and capable of anticipating needs.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and meet demanding deadlines.
  • Successful experience monitoring budgets.
  • Fluency in English

Working Conditions:

The work environment is primarily indoors, occasionally outdoors, in various settings within the museum, including display galleries, offices, and storage areas.

Frequent requirement to receive and communicate oral and written instructions in English.

Physical activities include moving about the work area, between galleries and storage areas, ascending and descending stairs, standing and/or sitting for extended periods, and occasionally lifting/moving up to 15 pounds unassisted.
