Whether you have a budget of $300 or $300,000, there are inexpensive and practical solutions for museum exhibit design if you think creatively. Learn about available tools and materials for exhibit design and installation on a budget.
The morning discussion will focus on shortcuts and tips with a holistic view of curation from planning strategies, and design theory to low cost materials and installation procedures in small to medium size museum settings. “Do it Yourself” in-house workflows will be presented and shared to include creating to-scale floorplans with an open-source graphics editor, organizing artwork and generating paperwork in a Microsoft Access database, and using Excel as an artwork hanging calculator. Tools, hardware, and lighting will be explored with an eye toward quality and efficiency, and “other duties as assigned” will also be touched upon. The afternoon session will be a walkthrough presentation and Q&A of the exhibitions currently on view at the National Sporting Library & Museum to see the theory in practice.
