[Richmond, VA] — A Farewell Message from the Desk of the VAM President -
Dear VAM Colleagues,
I write today to share the news that Virginia Association of Museums (VAM) Executive Director Rick Hurley has tendered his resignation and will be embarking on a new chapter in his career this coming week.
Rick has been an integral part of our team since joining VAM in August 2022, re-launching the annual conference post-pandemic, supporting VAM’s DEAI initiatives and rebuilding VAM’s staff team during a challenging period of transition.
The VAM Council is grateful for Rick's hard work and commitment, and wishes him all the best in this new phase of his professional journey. Council leadership is currently developing a process to fill the Executive Director position and has launched a Search Committee, chaired by Board Secretary Cam Patterson, to facilitate the next steps. We anticipate sharing further information with all of you about the search process in the coming days, and will also post updates on our VAM website and social media channels.
While change is underway, rest assured that the VAM Council is committed to ensuring the association’s critical programming in support of each of you, our members, and our entire museum community. Planning remains actively in progress for our robust calendar of fall programming and next year’s conference in Blacksburg.
Our dedicated staff, Communications Coordinator Kristina Boodram, Finance Manager Su Thongpan, and DEAI Director Richard Josey will continue in their roles to support VAM’s operations and efforts during this period of change.
During this transition, please reach out to our VAM Council members for your ongoing needs, as they will continue to play key roles along with VAM staff in managing the ongoing work of the organization as the search process proceeds.
